Trevor, chair of the Young Greens Ed Davitt and general election candidate for Dublin West Roderick O’Gorman launched our Youth Mainfesto in the Hideout pool hall in Dublin.
The manifesto proposes to maintain free fees for third level education, improve safe and sustainable transport options for young people, guarantee minimum standards for rental accommodation, reduce VAT on condoms and increase funding for youth-focused and youth-led recreational projects.
We’ll be in Swords tomorrow, and we’re confident of a good turnout.

Congratulations to Brian Wilson and all the Greens who worked so hard on all 13 campaigns in the North.
I’m sure there will be lots of celebrations this evening.
Skerries pier continues to languish in neglect. This must be remedied as part of a programme for developing the commercial and leisure potential of the harbour area in a balanced and sensitive way, compatible with the character of the town.
Greens want older people to get the help they need, within their homes/community, at every stage of increasing dependency. Thus we have 4 objectives :
The Greens are aware of the increasing demand for places in Skerries schools. St. Michael’s House also needs new premises. We will continue the fight for new schools to be built in new developments, as we have done successfully in the Kelly’s Bay extension. However, Greens in Government will also tackle the underlying problem here: the lack of a proper planning system which would ensure the correctly timed installation of social infrastructure in new developments. We believe that a school place should be provided for every child who needs it, where and when they need it.
The Green Party is very critical of Dublin Bus regarding the unreliable service on the No. 33 busroute. Overcrowding on the trains is still a major problem, although we have achieved some improvements (e.g. punctuality, better night services, Sunday trains). In government, the Green Party promises a major shake-up in public transport. Trevor Sargent T.D. and Councillor Joe Corr will be seeking a radical and determined overhaul of the 33 bus service. They will demand an an upgrade in train frequency in Skerries, as part of the promised DART service to Balbriggan. Greens in government connect the Metro to the Northern Line at Donabate. Skerries residents will be able to reach the airport by train.
Cycling in Skerries must be promoted, for both children and adults. The quality of many road edges is so bad that cyclists have to manouvre further out towards the centre of the road. This is an issue for Fingal County Council. There is a lack of access for cyclists in parks throughout Fingal, including Ardgillan.
Speeding cars are a danger to walkers in some areas, such as Barnageera. This must be tackled though traffic calming, road planning, and enforcement.
